I wrote a story to enter a flash fiction competion, run by Newscientist magazine. (https://www.newscientist.com/)

My story got fourth place (…shades of you have won second place in a beauty contest) .

Funny thing is, as the rights were given away (I think) – It popped up in the most bizzard place

It’s a source text used in a book called

“Texts and Lessons for Teaching Literature: With 65 Fresh Mentor Texts…”

It’s called “Untitled” in the book, but the story name was “Dear Friend”

5 star reviews…

Sadly i can’t see the story in the preview PDFs – I do wonder what teaching points they drew from the story …   Perhaps “This stinnks!”

But that means I’m literature, as it’s in a book called teaching literature…

Update – You know, i’m not sure if the rights were ever mentioned in the rules – only:

“Submitting your entry constitutes your consent for us to use your entry, name and photos for editorial or publicity purposes, should you be a winner.”

well,  I suppose this could be construed as publicity.
